Marta Fructuoso joins HEROES project

Marta Fructuoso joined the HEROES project on February 2018 as a postdoctoral researcher in Dr. Poitier’s team (Partner 2). Her research aims at investigating whether a defect in the endo-lysosomal pathway in neurons from the locus coeruleus may be a shared mechanism contributing to dementia in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer disease, Parkinson disease, and Down syndrome. She will explore this hypothesis in human samples and mouse models. Marta is a young scientist working in the field of Down syndrome since 2013. During her Doctoral Thesis supervised by Dr. Dierssen, she investigated why obesity prevalence is higher in individuals with DS than in the general population using murine models. Her work supports the hypothesis of a predisposition to obesity in DS because of a metabolic component (Fructuoso M. et al. Free Radic Biol Med, 2018). Marta, HEROES researchers wish you many scientific successes!
